Charlotte High School achieves LEED Gold
March 11, 2011
The replacement campus of Charlotte High School has achieved LEED Gold certification and is one of only 2 LEED Gold certified schools in Florida and one of only 5 in the United States.
The school which serves close to 2,000 students incorporates ground-breaking sustainable features. Photovoltaic panels which double as walkway canopies are utilized to harnesses solar energy and collect hot water for use in the locker rooms and kitchen.
After the school was destroyed by Hurricane Charley in 2004, Harvard Jolly partnered with Charlotte County Public Schools to reconstruct and renovate almost 400,000 square feet of the existing campus. The historic main building that was built in 1926 was reconstructed and preserved in order for it to remain on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
