The expansion of east Polk County's major medical center included consolidating patient access, creating a home for a wellness center, and providing additional patient services.

A new 2-story building houses the main lobby, wellness center, and open heart surgical suite. The grand lobby features a pond that flows from the interior to the exterior of the lobby and presents a healing environment for hospital visitors. A healing garden, located on the south end of the lobby, further complements the relaxing and tranquil atmosphere.

The hospital's new wellness center provides cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, as well as nutrition and diabetic education. The pharmacy department was also expanded to meet growing demand, comply with new regulations, and allow for more efficient service.

The expansion added six new operating rooms, a post-anesthesia care unit, and a basement expansion to accommodate future growth of the imaging department. A new endoscopy suite offers six procedure rooms and 22 preparation/recovery beds, and a new entry point was designed for the oncology suite.

Also part of the project was a three-story, 283-space parking garage, a replacement of the existing patient tower's façade and windows, and upgrades to the central energy plant.
